Despite securing the services of Olivier Giroud for an additional year, Chelsea are still looking to add to their striking options ahead of the 2020/21 season and Arkadiusz Milik has emerged as a potential transfer target.
Following Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Turin in the summer of 2016, Arkadiusz Milik was signed by Napoli after his breakthrough season at Ajax which saw him find the back of the net 24 times in all competitions.
His debut season was plagued by injuries as he only managed eight starts in all competitions. This set the tone for the following season where injuries once again limited his game time.
Having managed to stay fit a season later, he served up a reminder on why Napoli paid €35m for him with 20 goals in all competitions.
That form has continued this season where he has scored 12 goals in all competitions prior to the suspension of football in Italy
With Dries Mertens set for a contract extension, Napoli may be more open to selling Milik whose current deal expires at the end of next season.
According to SportItalia, Milik is wanted by several clubs including Tottenham, Juventus and Chelsea.
Following a mutiny against Aurelio De Laurentiis earlier in the season, several Napoli players are set to depart and Milik could be one of them.
Apparently, the 26-year-old has no interest in a contract renewal. This leaves Napoli with no option than to cash in on him this summer in order to avoid losing him for free next summer.
Napoli do not possess all the cards in their hands at the moment. This means that they may have to accept less than their current asking price of £40m for the Polish striker.
Milik would provide much-needed competition for Tammy Abraham and gives Lampard more options than he has had this season due to the unreliability of Michy Batshuayi
If anything, the last two seasons have shown that Milik’s only impediment to success are his injuries. Keeping him fit will be a big determining factor on if he will be successful wherever he ends up next season.
