After a very busy summer in the transfer market, Chelsea are expected to be in the race for this year’s Premier League title and recent evidence suggests that they are on track in doing so.
Chelsea recorded a fourth successive victory yesterday after coming from a goal down to beat Sheffield United 4-1. It was a superb display by all standards which prompted Frank Lampard to call it “the best performance of the season.”
The Blues found themselves behind with less than ten minutes on the clock when David McGoldrick diverted Sander Berge’s effort home.

Before that, they had gone over nine hours without letting in a single goal. This is a stark contrast to last season where they finished with the worst defensive record in the top half.
The signings of Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva have helped Frank Lampard’s men turn a corner defensively. On two separate occasions, opponents have been reduced to having no efforts on target. Such defensive thriftiness is what you’d normally associate with the great Chelsea teams of recent years.
On the other end of the pitch, things have also taken an upward curve from the previous campaign. 13 different players have put the ball in the back of the net for Chelsea with less than 15 games played so far. The Blues currently have the most goals (20) and the highest goal difference (+10) in the league this term.

A point to note is that Chelsea have barely had everyone fit at the same time this season and have still racked up these impressive numbers. The international break couldn’t have come at a worse time for the West Londoners who are beginning to look like a force to be reckoned with.
Chelsea may not have flown out of the blocks but they are steadily gathering momentum as the race for the title goes on.
