Hulk linked with a Premier League move, too late, or a last chance for glory?

Hulk, after years of being linked with a move to the Premier League could finally be on his way to England

Hulk was one of Europe’s best attackers at the end of his last season in Porto. A blend of pace and power to match his namesake, with technique to match, he helped lead Porto to a Europa League triumph. From there, he looked destined to move to the Premier League. Chelsea and Manchester United were reportedly among the Brazilian’s suitors, but he never made the move. Instead he moved east to Saint Petersburg and his name slowly disappeared from the headlines.

He would of course still appear in European competition. His effort of taking apart Liverpool in the Europa League was one reminder of his talent. However, his recognition as a truly top level player started to dwindle after Brazil’s shocking performance at the 2014 world cup. However, he still produced, getting over 20 goal contributions for four of the next five seasons he played in Russia and China after the tournament.

Now having announced his plans to leave Shanghai, there are a number of clubs allegedly hunting his signature. According to Hulk, clubs from Germany, England, Spain and a number of other countries have offered him contracts. Of course, these links are currently tenuous, and we’re yet to hear concrete links with clubs.

At 34-years of age he is past his prime, however that doesn’t mean he couldn’t still perform in England. To expect performances like in his prime is of course unrealistic. However, his experience and ability to produce game-breaking moments could be vital to keeping a club in the Premier League.

Purely from a story perspective, it would be fantastic if such a strange career did end in the Premier League. However, if it does happen, the move that for so long seemed like destiny, will certainly be different to how many will have pictured it.
