Juventus have offered Chelsea a choice of three players in exchange for Jorginho, if reports are to be believed.
According to Sport, the Italian giants are keen on the Italy international.
With the global pandemic putting a financial strain on clubs throughout Europe, swap deals are expected to become commonplace.
The three players that Juve are willing to let go are Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi and Adrien Rabiot.
There is a well-established relationship between Jorginho and Juve coach Maurizio Sarri.
They worked together at both Napoli and Chelsea, before Sarri left London to take up his current role in his homeland.
With Miralem Pjanic set to join Barcelona, Sarri wants a new midfield pivot.
He is clearly a big fan of Jorginho and reportedly wants to unite with him once again.
Mixed spell
The Brazilian-born holding midfielder has had a mixed spell in London.
He came under fire in his first season and became the scapegoat for the largely unsuccessful Sarri-ball style of play.
The 28-year-old has improved massively this season, winning over many Chelsea fans who doubted him.
He has adopted a more dynamic playing style under Frank Lampard, adding more goal output and more defensive output.
Lampard seems to like him too, making him vice-captain, while describing him as a “driver“.
So, Chelsea may not want to let Jorginho go, especially not for less than the £51 million they paid for him.
However, perhaps they would let him leave for cash plus a suitable player.
The touted three
With Willian and Pedro set to leave Chelsea this summer, they will need to find some wingers.
Costa and Bernardeschi fall into that category.
If it was a few years ago, Douglas Costa would have been a fine addition.
However, he is now 29, so the younger Bernardeschi could be a better option.
Of course, if they swapped Jorginho for a winger, it would mean that the Blues would be light in the center of the park.
While Mateo Kovacic has been fantastic this season, N’golo Kante has had a down year.
He has also decided against a return to training due to health concerns, so he may not be available for a while.
Lampard looks set to stick to a 4-2-3-1, after signing Hakim Ziyech to play the number 10 role.
If Chelsea let Jorginho go in exchange for a winger, they would need to sign someone else to play in the double pivot.
As a central midfielder, Rabiot would be a direct replacement for Jorginho. At 25, the Frenchman is also three years younger.
He has not made the desired impact in Turin since signing on a free from PSG last summer. He has started 11 games, coming off the bench on six occasions.
Rabiot showed his immense talent in Paris, however, and could be a big hit at Stamford Bridge.
If Chelsea do decide to swap Jorginho for a central midfielder, they will need to sign a winger. If they swap him for a winger, they will need to sign a central-midfielder.
So, perhaps it is best to try to hold onto their man.
