Manchester City winger Leroy Sane will join Bayern Munich according to reports from German outlet Bild.
The outlet is reporting that the 24-year-old will return to his home country when the transfer window reopens.
The deal will be around £44.7m plus performance-based and trophy related add ons. Those add ons will see the deal eventually end up costing the Bundesliga champions £54.8m. He will sign a five-year deal.
This feels like a move that was inevitable to happen. Bayern originally made a move for Sane last summer but the winger suffered an ACL injury in his right knee.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the winger’s intentions to leave the Etihad Stadium last week. He told the media: “I’m so disappointed. When we make an offer, it’s because we want him; he’s got a special quality that is difficult to find”.
He then followed that up by saying: “Leroy said he doesn’t want to extend – it means he wants to leave and he will leave this summer or next.”
Once Sane had rejected an extension City had no option but to sell this summer. The German international has 12 months left on his current contract and would have been able to agree on a move for free in January.
Since he arrived from Schalke 04 in 2016 for £46.8m Leroy Sane has been one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League. He has played a vital role in City’s success since his arrival scoring 39 goals and assisting 45 times in 135 games in all competitions.
The winger leaves Manchester winning 2 Premier Leagues, 2 League cups, and one FA Cup.
